The formula
Volume (m³) = length × width × depth (mm) ÷ 1,000. Tonnes = volume × density (tonnes/m³). Bulk bags = kilograms ÷ kg per bag, rounded up.
Measure your gravel area and choose a depth to estimate volume, weight and bulk bags. Adjust the bulk density and bag weight to match your supplier.

Volume (m³) = length × width × depth (mm) ÷ 1,000. Tonnes = volume × density (tonnes/m³). Bulk bags = kilograms ÷ kg per bag, rounded up.
A 5 m × 2 m path at 50 mm deep is 0.50 m³ before allowance. At 1.6 t/m³ that is about 0.8 tonnes before allowance.
Gravel density varies by stone type, grading and moisture. Compaction and ground conditions affect the required depth. Driveway layers and foundations need a separate specification.
